The Act on amending the Act of 13 October 1998 on the social security system and certain other acts was published in the Journal of Laws. From January 2022 many changes are waiting for us.

On August 19 President Andrzej Duda signed an act dated June 24, 2021, amending the act on the social insurance system and certain other acts. The purpose of the amendment is to put the social insurance system in order, to rationalize it, to introduce uniform solutions for granting and paying benefits and to improve the functioning of the Social Security Institution in the context of its financial management and settlements with contributors.

The most important changes which are worth preparing for include shortening the period of collecting sickness benefits after termination of employment; including periods of inability to work into one benefit period; increasing the number of sickness benefits for hospital stays; extending social insurance to partners of one-person limited liability companies and partners of general partnerships, partnerships and limited partnerships. The principles of voluntary social insurance for entrepreneurs and regulations concerning long-term benefits payments have also been changed. Changes have been introduced in the enforcement of dues for contributions, and an accident equaled to an accident at work will be indicated in the Social Security Institution information. Moreover, payers of contributions will have to set up a profile on the Electronic Services Platform of Social Security Institution until December 30, 2022, and if they fail to do so, the pension authority will do it for them by January 31, 2023.
