The Polish insurance market posted aggregate GWP of PLN 17.6 billion (EUR 3.8 billion) at the end of March 2021, 5.33% more y-o-y according to the quarterly statistics published by Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF). At the same time, claims and benefits paid by local insurers decreased by ~3% y-o-y to PLN 10.2 billion or EUR 2.2 billion.
Non-life GWP rose to PLN 12.1 billion (EUR 2.6 billion) in the first quarter of the year, 4.8% more than in the same period last year. The life insurance segment increased by 6.5% to PLN 5.5 billion (EUR 1.2 billion).
The leader of NL segment, PZU SA, accounted for about one third of this segment: 30.8%. ERGO HESTIA, came second, with 16% market share, followed by WARTA with 14.3%. Top 3 largest general insurers posted cumulative subscriptions of more than PLN 7 billion, or 61.1% of the total market.
The absolute leader of the life insurance segment in terms of GWP is PZU ZYCIE with 40.5% market share.
