Michał Biedzki has resigned from the Aegon CEO position. He will be replaced by Marc van der Ploeg.
Michał Biedzki was the first and only CEO until now. He has managed the company for 12 years. Aegon started its business in Poland in 2005 after the Nationwide Polska acquisition, which was the fifth life insurer in Poland.
The new CEO of Aegon Marc van der Ploeg, has been connected with the Polish insurance market for more than 10 years. He was the CEO of ING Życie (now Nationale – Nederlanden). Also he was responsible for the implementation of a new strategy for PZU. In 2010 he founded the investment fund consulting firm Money Makers.
According to market specialists the change of Aegon CEO is related to the implementation of the new company’s strategy consisting of expansion product. So far the insurer has sold insurance products with investment elements and retirement saving products (OFE). But extended regulations of this insurance sector and governmental plans to reduce OFE caused Aegon to lose its market position. So the improvement of this situation is an extention of the company’s offer.
